This is a new 5 string violin built on my proprietary model, inspired by the Brescian tradition of viola making. This design allows for a deep and rich C string and a beefy, powerful E string to coexist on the same instrument. Most 5 string designs are known for having either one or the other (and often neither), leading to the poor reputation of 5 string instruments. This design is one I personally play in my professional performance work, and I find it suitable for orchestra and contemporary settings. This particular violin has a dark and burly sound, very quick response, and an excellent resistance to bow pressure which gives it a wide dynamic range. It is fitted with Perfection geared pegs and Tonica strings. Body length 15.125". String length 332mm. The instrument is designed to be comfortable for violinists and those accustomed to smaller violas. I openly invite interested clients to try or loan the instrument.
